As Christmas Day draws closer, fans of Gavin and Stacey have been looking forward to the series’ Christmas special.

Larry Lamb, who plays Mick Shipman in Gavin and Stacey, will be featured in the final episode of the series. As a supporter of Action for Children, he opened up to us about his cherished Christmas traditions.

Larry Lamb’s perfect Christmas Day

We asked Larry about his favourite Christmas dish. For him, it’s about the classics: “Turkey and all the trimmings”, he said - from roasted potatoes to pigs in blankets.

The holidays are a time for rituals, and Larry’s family take theirs seriously: “We eat exactly the same things in exactly the same order, open presents at exactly the same time, and watch Calamity Jane.

No Christmas Day is complete without music though, and for Larry, Silent Night is his favourite festive song.

Filming Gavin and Stacey: The Finale

While Larry couldn’t reveal any spoilers about the upcoming Gavin and Stacey Christmas special, he reflected on his favourite memory of the show: “My fondest memory is filming the very end of the show at the very end of the shoot and sharing the joy with all the crew.”

When imagining what his character Mick and on-screen wife Pam would be up to on Christmas Day, Larry said they’d be “looking after friends and family whilst probably eating and drinking too much.”

It’s easy to imagine Mick and Pam hosting a warm and festive occasion, filled with plenty of laughter and classic Gavin and Stacey humour.

For our final question, we asked Larry what he thought Mick’s favourite thing about Christmas would be? He said:

Giving Pam a kiss under the mistletoe.

You can watch Gavin & Stacey: The Finale on BBC One at 9pm on 25 December.

How long has Larry Lamb supported Action for Children?

Larry has been supporting Action for Children for years. He is on our TVs calling attention to the needs of vulnerable children across the UK.

Larry is the voice of the Action for Children Christmas TV advert.

But Larry hasn’t just been on our screens. He also supported Action for Children at our first ever Secret Santa's Giving Grotto.

This is what Larry had to say about the Giving Grotto:

Action for Children’s work to help families celebrate in a special way has always been inspiring to me. Secret Santa’s Giving Grotto is really taking that to the next level this year. I hope this Christmas and beyond, people will spread joy by becoming Secret Santas to support vulnerable children across the UK.
