What do a tote bag, a mug, and a yule log all have in common? They’re just some of the ways that John Lewis Partnership is supporting Action for Children this Christmas.

It isn’t quite Christmas without the magical unveiling of the John Lewis Christmas ad. With the launch of their 2024 Christmas advert today, we’re looking at some of the ways that John Lewis is supporting us this Christmas, and fun ways for you to get involved.

Made by Care jumpers and t-shirts

Just in time for the colder weather, the John Lewis Partnership have released a brand-new lifestyle range, Made by Care, all designed by fine art student Izaac as part of their Building Happier Futures programme.

The jumpers and t-shirts come in a range of colours and, like the entire collection, a portion of the proceeds from these items will go towards supporting Action for Children.

Alongside clothing, John Lewis’ Made by Care range also features accessories and homeware items that are sure to add that perfect touch of sophistication. These include scarves, tote bags, and sleek fine china mugs, all of which make the perfect gift this Christmas.

Similarly to the jumpers and t-shirts, the proceeds from the items’ sales will go towards our work in supporting care experienced young people and helping them develop vital employability skills.

In store giving trees

There’s no better symbol for the season of giving than the humble Christmas Tree. And this year, Waitrose are encouraging their supporters to give back by placing giving trees in their stores.

The aim is for customers to choose a bauble shaped price tag from £2 to £25 that will gift a donation to their Building Happier Futures Fund. It is a simple, yet whimsically festive way of reminding us of the importance of giving back at Christmas. One that will help Action for Children, alongside Home Start UK and Who Cares Scotland, to continue ensuring more children have the safe and happy childhoods they deserve.

The giving trees will launch in Waitrose stores on 20 November. You can also add a virtual tag to your online shop.

Waitrose’s Christmas chocolate yule log

Decadent, chocolatey, and topped with snow-like icing sugar, a chocolate yule log is the centre piece of any well-decked Christmas feast. By choosing Waitrose’s Christmas Yule Log this year, you can enjoy your festive treat whilst helping support vulnerable children across the UK.

You can shop the Christmas Yule Log instore and online during the festive period.

Mini Lewis Bear tree decoration

Mini Lewis Bear Tree Decoration - a little beige teddy bear with a tartan scarf and John Lewis ribbon to hang on a christmas tree

For the fourth year running, the Lewis Bear Tree Decoration is back to add an adorable touch of festive cheer to Christmas trees across the UK. The bear comes with a tartan scarf, a cheery smile, and a Christmas tree hanging ribbon.

But this little bear won’t only be bringing joy and happiness to our homes this Christmas. It could also help build a happier and safer home for a vulnerable child in the UK by generating funds for the Building Happier Futures Programme.

From the sale of the Mini Lewis Bear Tree Decoration, John Lewis PLC will donate £14,000 to the Building Happier Futures Fund.

A special John Lewis Christmas ad TikTok competition

As if waiting for this year's John Lewis Christmas ad wasn't exciting enough, John Lewis are now launching a TikTok competition on 15 November that will support charities like Action for Children.

The competition invites participants to create a cover of Richard Ashcroft's Sonnet - the song of this year's Christmas ad - on TikTok, using the branded effect on the John Lewis TikTok page and with the hashtag #MySonnet. The winner, who'll be chosen by Ashcroft himself, will then get to professionally record their very own version of Sonnet to feature in a special Christmas Day airing of the ad on TV.

All proceeds from the winning track will go towards charities like Action for Children to help build safer and happier futures for care experienced young people.
