The Christmas season is a time for magic and enjoyment. Presents under the tree. Hanging stockings. And enjoying festive treats. With the Christmas holidays approaching, we’re looking at things you can do with children this Christmas.

1. Complete Our Secret Santa’s Wish List

At the end of November, we held our very own Giving Grotto - the first of its kind where children could give a gift rather than receive one. The idea was inspired by the hugely generous spirit of children and young people, and the tradition of giving gifts at Christmas.

If you were unable to make our Giving Grotto this year, why not complete our Secret Santa’s Wish List with your child?

Similar to the Giving Grotto, the activity sheet is designed to help your child learn all about the love, kindness, and generosity that’s at the heart of the magic of Christmas.

2. Take on a Christmas fundraising challenge

Festive fundraising is a great way to get your children up and active in the Christmas holidays, all whilst helping raise vital funds to help vulnerable children across the UK.

Some festive fundraising ideas include:

  1. Taking on a challenge like a Santa dash or run: you could sign up for a Santa dash in your local area, or grab your favourite Christmas costume and accessories and host your own charity Santa run.
  2. Host a Christmas bake sale: with the Christmas holidays coming up, encourage your little ones to make something festive like gingerbread or Christmas cookies for an end of term Christmas bake sale.
  3. Christmas crafting: you could make Christmas cards, wreaths, or even baubles to hang on your tree. It's a fun and creative activity to complete with your children, and by selling your newly made crafts to friends or family, can be a great fundraising activity too.

3. Make your own Christmas decorations

We have a range of DIY Christmas decoration ideas for you to try at home. And you only need a few things to get started, such as paper, scissors, and glue.

If you’d like to be a Secret Santa for a vulnerable child this year and you’re looking for ways to get your children involved, you can also download some of our Secret Santa activities.

These include decorating an Action for Children Christmas Tree, Bauble, or Make your Own Reindeer. You can then hang these decorations around your house to show you’re a Secret Santa for a vulnerable child. We also have a Christmas Quiz to bring even more merriment.
