We are looking for caring individuals to support children with disabilities, from 0 to 18, across the county of Devon
Caring for children with disabilities is an incredible thing to do. As a short breaks carer, you will provide a safe and fun environment for children with disabilities in your own home.
Interested in being a short breaks carer?
What is a short break?
Our Family Breaks Devon service provides short breaks for disabled children in the home of the carer. Each short break is at least for 24 hours, often two nights. These can be weekends, midweeks and school holidays.
Short break carers offer children with disabilities a safe, meaningful and enjoyable experience with another family. They also help families get a much-needed break to recharge their batteries.
What do I need to commit to?
Ideally, we'd like you to commit to two weekends a month. However, if you have less availability, we'd still be interested in talking with you.
Who are you looking for?
Some carers will do this as a full-time role. Others will do smaller chunks of short breaks when they are not at work.
As a short breaks carer, you will need to:
- Have a spare room
- Be over 21
- Have previous experience of working with, or parenting, a child with a disability.
Unsure about your circumstances?
What support will I get?
We are here to train and support you. As a short breaks carer, you will receive:
- Excellent training in managing children’s disability and health needs
- A fee of £110 per night
- Mileage allowance
- Peace of mind that you are insured, and appropriate safeguarding is in place
- 24/7 support and advice
