Meeting new people. Seeing new places. Doing new things. That's what our short breaks services are all about
Gilmerton Road is a home from home setting and has cared for hundreds of children from Edinburgh and the Lothians since it opened in 1998.
The service supports children with learning disabilities and their families. With gardens and a sensory room all of the children in our care flourish.
Action for Children offers a residential short break service to local children and young people. The overnight stays allow our guests to develop new skills, socialise, and gain independence while they are in our care. We believe that it’s very important that the children and young people enjoy spending time at Gilmerton Road, and we know they do, but we always focus on helping them to learn and develop.
The dedicated care team has introduced new foods to the restricted diets of autistic children; helped families who struggle to get more than three hours sleep a night to plan bedtime routines, and supported learning disabled children to have fun in their own communities.
Every disabled child and their family should have the right to short breaks. We're here to help make that happen, by offering flexible and accessible support.
If you have a Direct Payment or Personal Budget we can offer you services tailored to your individual needs.
The service is within the local authority of Edinburgh Council. For more information, please get in touch.
