Action for Children responds to LGA report on children’s social care
Carol Iddon, Deputy Chief Executive at Action for Children, said:
“The government must urgently invest in our children by putting in place proper funding for the children’s services we need to tackle this growing crisis in care. These children have often been through unimaginable crisis and trauma in their lives through no fault of their own, and it’s vital they have access to the right services to support them and help them recover – but many of the good quality services they need are simply not there. All the while the number of children needing care is on the rise, making the problem even more desperate.
“This is leaving children who are already vulnerable having to cope with unregulated services and unsafe situations, when what they need is a safe, stable place to call home to help overcome their past and build a better future.
“We need to explore new ways of looking after children and young people in care, including a new wave of modern residential children’s homes, incentives for foster carers, and more services to step in early and help young people at risk.”
