Our work in Wales
We have been working in Wales since 1911. Last year, we helped more than 22,000 children and young people

We support vulnerable children, young people and families in Wales with almost 80 projects and services. We work in partnership with local authorities, health boards and third-sector organisations.

Our ground-breaking projects support children and their families, from the early years through to times of crisis.
Our Residential Short Breaks Services give disabled young people aged six to 18 quality time away from home. They also give families much needed respite.
We do therapeutic work with families and young people. In schools, our Blues programme helps children identify and deal with stress and anxiety.
We offer safe foster and residential homes to young people in the care system, and support them as they leave care. And our award-winning Headlands school near Cardiff offers residential care and education to young people with complex needs.
We look for warm, caring people who want to change a child’s life by giving them a safe and stable home. Our family-centred service gives expert support to foster families. This is to ensure that fostering a child is a rewarding experience for everyone.
We offer training, support and guidance to help foster carers and their foster child, along with a generous fostering family allowance and activities for the family throughout the year.
We work with the Welsh Government and Members of the Senedd to change laws and enable every child, young person and family to thrive.
We believe in early intervention and doing what’s right for vulnerable children. And our evidence comes directly from young people themselves.
Our campaigns focus on:
- Improving children’s education, mental health and wellbeing.
- Supporting children in the care system.
- Reducing inequality in the early years of a child’s life.
- Supporting children through life’s challenges.
- Empowering young people to flourish as adults.
With our supporters, we helped change the law for children in care. Before, most young people in foster care in Wales had to leave home between 16 and 18. They can now stay until they turn 21. This gives them a safe and stable home for longer.
